Algae

Algae takes a broad range of forms, from microscopic organisms to giant kelp. Algae can survive drought by creating spores that can be carried long distances by wind or water. Once the spores find a suitably wet and sunny environment, they can multiply very rapidly. Algae use up dissolved carbon dioxide, causing water pH to rise rapidly.

To prevent algae from turning your pool a sickly green, maintain proper chlorine levels. If your pool is polluted with algae, keep people out of it until the problem is cleared. Some algae can be toxic.
